How Scale Conversion Works

A scale is a proportion that represents the relationship between a model or drawing and the actual object. For example, 1:100 means 1 unit on the model equals 100 units in reality.

Our converter handles the calculation automatically. Simply enter your real-world dimension, choose a scale ratio, and get the scaled size instantly.

Common Scale Ratios

Architecture & Blueprints

1:50 – Detailed construction drawings
1:100 – Floor plans, elevations
1:200 – Site plans
1:500 – Large area plans

Model Building

1:10 – Large detailed models
1:24 – Model cars, aircraft
1:64 – Diecast vehicles
1:87 – HO scale trains

Examples

Example 1: Building Floor Plan
A real room is 5 meters wide. At 1:100 scale, the drawing would show: 5000mm ÷ 100 = 50mm (or 5cm)

Example 2: Model Airplane
A real airplane is 70 meters long. At 1:200 scale, the model would be: 70m ÷ 200 = 0.35m (350mm)

Example 3: Engineering Drawing
A machine part is 2 inches actual size. At 1:2 scale for enlargement, the drawing shows: 2in × 2 = 4 inches

Scale Conversion Formula

Scaled Size = Real Size ÷ Scale Denominator
Example: 1000 mm ÷ 100 = 10 mm (at 1:100 scale)
